Submission Guidelines

Tempered Steel is an annually published literary magazine that features creative writing by Colorado State University-Pueblo students. Submissions in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and other genres are always in consideration. Please carefully read the following submission guidelines and policies.

Submission Instructions:

Hard copy submissions will NOT be accepted. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Material should be submitted by e-mail, in Microsoft Word or RTF (rich text format) files. Please begin the subject of your e-mail with the word SUBMISSION. Submissions on CD or floppy disk are also accepted and may be delivered to Juan J. Morales in Psychology 115.

In the body of the email, please provide a brief cover letter that provides your name, student PID, phone number, address, email address, your genre(s), and the title of your work(s).

Copy and paste all of your submissions into one document and insert the file as an attachment in your email. Use only your PID number in your submissions document for identification. Please do not send several attachments. Submit to: temperedsteel@colostate-pueblo.edu.

We respond to submissions as quickly as possible but response time varies. Once your submission is received, an editor will write you and tell you when to expect a reply. If you feel we have forgotten you, please write us to query the status of your submission. More and more often users of hotmail, yahoo, and earthlink e-mail accounts are finding our replies in their junk or bulk mail folders, so check those for replies as well. We accept submissions during the summer months, but they will not be read until the following school year.

Submitting Student Statement of Verification and Compliance:

By sending your work to Tempered Steel, you hereby verify that the submitted writing is your own original work, and that any use of outside materials or sources has been credited to the original author(s) using the appropriate format and documentation style.

You also hereby grant CSU-Pueblo the right to use or publish your work – without any compensation to you in Tempered Steel or on Tempered Steel website. You will retain copyright to the submission, will always be acknowledged as author, and will be allowed to assign any subsequent publishing rights as you see fit. By sending us your work, you give permission to publish your work.
